Crecimiente (Growth)

Impotente.

"your opinion is not valid"

was never directly said to me

but always directly felt.

my family's muffled screams

matched my muted ones

and my roots sprouted in hate,

a leaf growing through

a crack in the sidewalk

of a busy Brooklyn street.

Poder.

"my opinion is to be heard"

I screamed back,

Unafraid and unwavering.

Incohesive screams were no match

For my bellowing ones,

and the last leaf grew,

an oak covering the sidewalk

of a Brooklyn street watching.
