Cries Unheard

They say it’s tissue

It’s not an issue

It’s up to you

Nothing more

You’re not his wife

So it’s not a life

It will be buried

In a newspaper and trash bed

It happened to everyone around

For some reason you stood your ground

I survived to term

But to you I was a germ

You fought to keep me

But there was never a “we”

I was me

And you were you

Now I am older

And I am bolder

I am done hiding

I won’t stop fighting

Knowing I was almost a percent

Makes me lament

Is that all anyone is anymore?

A number, a statistic

A check or an X?

A scribble in the book of a doctor?

I refuse to believe that our world

Has come to this point

A person is a person

No matter the reason

It is flesh, not tissue

A miracle, not an issue

A cry of joy

A girl and a boy

Everyone deserves a chance at life

Not to be stolen by the knife

I will stand strong

And prove to the world that this is wrong

I survived and now I must speak

Lest others be taken while weak
