Cross My Sorry Heart
My heart explodes
With your warm smile
That which lightens your face
The same way the sun lightens the earth
Such blinding glory
Which I can never seem to get enough
And I smile back
Forming creases on the heavy layers of makeup
That cover that purple bruise on my left cheek
It hurts, you know?
But I guess that it doesn’t hurt
As much as how I hurt you
With my faults and flaws
They annoy you
I annoy you—I know
But I love you and I know you love me too
But the dark shadows in your eyes frighten me
Yet your smile enthralls me
I’m so in love with you that I might go crazy
This pain you cause
It’s okay
Because I love you more than I love life
More than I love coffee and the chirps of the birds in the morning
The dark tunnel will end up with a bright, gaping exit
And you’ll be there waiting for me
Because, just as much as I love you
You love me too
I know it’s not good
But darling
For you I’d run to hell
And conquer the seven realms of that hideous place
All for you
Though instead of your calloused knuckles on my cheek
I’d prefer your gentle fingers over my thigh
On my lips
And instead of that volcanic anger
Sweet tenderness
I’d wish for you to talk to me
Tell me your ailing, love
And I would try to paint you a bright sky
Because this is what love means to me
Wrecking myself
For your perfection
Your wellbeing
Your affection focused on my face
I hope you hear my words
I’d do anything for you
Even if you might not
But let me say it one more time
All of this
Is because I love you
