Crossroads

Motionless, suspended in time:

on the banks of a  river, which resides in  my heart,

and in my mind's eye.

Flowing waters, my emotions.

Upstream, my memories.

Downstream , my  future uncertainties.

The breeze, my dreams.  Broken branches, the cracking

echoes of my tears and fears.

The widespread wings of the birds carry my hopes

into the realms of the yet unknown.

Life is a series of crossroads.
