In the crowd
I feel my heart beating as I scream in unity with a crowd.
A crowd built by people of many colors and many ages.
From different homes and different religions.
Together we stand, shoulder to shoulder.
One hand raised in a fist, the other clenched by our side filled with a rage we cannot act on.
"BLACK LIVES MATTER!" we scream togther, I feel an aching pain in my throat from hours of screaming. But I do not falter.
"BLACK LIVES MATTER!" we scream again, hoping the executioners in front of us will finally listen.
And finally, understand.
We are scared but we are here.
We are here screaming in a crowd for the right to jog in our neighborhood.
We are here screaming for the right to sell CD's.
We are here screaming for the right to walk home carrying a bag of skittles.
We are here screaming for the right to sleep in our own apartments.
We are screaming for the right to breathe.
we can't fight this battle alone.
But now we are not alone.
Now we stand in a crowd.
In this crowd we fight for the right to live.
