Crown 'n' Coke

I'm offered alcohol and I say no.

Yes, yes it is my favorite,

But I don't want it.

I'm the kind of sad that crept slowly into my head

Without me noticing

Until suddenly I'm turning down my favorite drink

Without cause.

I'm the kind of sad that alcohol cannot comfort

No matter how strong.

You sit right there next to me

But suddenly I realize

You might as well be a thousand miles away

Because tomorrow

That's exactly how far away we'll be.

Why am I thinking about this?

When did I start thinking about this?

Why am I so sad now?

It's not the first time we will have had to say goodbye.

So why does it hurt so much more now

Than it ever has before?

In that moment of pain and anguish and confusion

You find yourself understanding the meaning of love.

It's a feeling that consumes your entire being without a hint as to why.

In case I didn't say it enough,

I love you.

I love you with everything in my soul.

You're sitting next to me

Asking me why I haven't touched my drink,

And yet I can't find the words

To tell you why.
