Cruel Regression

Well, it seems we have a bit of a problem We've stuck ourselves in the exact same situation That we put ourselves in 50 years ago It took until 1967 for our entire country to come to our senses And legalize interracial marriage I thought we had progressed, But I guess we're still stuck in the same Dirty Pathetic Hateful rut Because for some reason our judges say That there's something wrong for two people in love To get married Just because they belong to the same gender We threw out the Jim Crowe laws But Prop 8 still taints California's court rooms Like maggots in a piece of rotten meat Right wing politicians yell and scream About protecting the sanctity of marriage But let's be honest They're just perfuming and applying makeup To the decomposing corpse of their own ignorance and hatred My preacher told me Jesus loves us all But I guess that doesn't apply to the people that he calls "Faggots and Queers" because of who they fall in love with It's darkly ironic and Even demonic That the tones we use to describe homosexual love Are so often sardonic As if there was something to be mocked and sneered at About loving someone of the same sex "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was repealed But that's just the tip of the iceberg And I find it a bit absurd that homosexuals are allowed to die for our country But restrained from living in matrimony with the ones that they love Humanity evolves while humanitarianism does the opposite It's pathetic how we care more about a crack in the glass screen Of our iPhone 5 Than we care about the cracks in the hearts of women and men Whom our laws say cannot be with each other Oppression prevails While human rights fall backwards Can you understand my words? What I'm saying is that in my 17 years I've seen enough hate to last a lifetime All I can hope is that this inhumanity ceases before How inhumane we are mutates us into something inhuman altogether
