Culture

I haven’t always been draped in wealth,

I haven’t always been wished good health.

I haven’t always made the top of the class,

I haven’t always traveled first class.

But I have learned to earn my own,

To work hard and to never moan.

I have learned to ignore feelings of hollow,

Because health and rewards will follow.

I used to think my culture was a barrier,

A system designed to make me inferior,

But I’m thankful for the way I was raised,

For that is the reason I’ve often been praised.

My Asian heritage is mine for now,

But it will be passed on, I will vow.

I’m thankful for my resilient nature,

I know that my culture will never denature.
