culture comparison to frogs

My culture is like a frog

The water represents where I was born, Guatemala

The land represents where I was raised, America

As a tadpole, I was born in the water with my brothers and sisters

Where I first opened my eyes, seeing my first glimpse of life

Then one day I grew arms and legs and with that I journeyed out of the water and onto the land

I left my brothers and sisters, I left my first family

But I turn around and only 2 tadpoles follow me, my brother and sister, so did two frogs that I call mom and dad

Onto the land we went, where I build my new life

The feeling of the air going in my lungs, the more I breath the more I grow and the more establish I am with my surroundings

As I grow, I learn to speak.. “ribbit” this is the new language that I use to communicate, to express, to progress

I have more love for this land, now that I speak the land language, now that I am established

I see now that I am part of the land, this is who I am

But constantly I look back at the water, forgetting how it was being a tadpole

I forget where I started from and where I grew my arms and legs

I look back at the water, wishing I was a tadpole again to see the faceless brothers and sister again

Faceless because I don’t remember
