Culture Crisis

Growing up

I barely even spoke English

Growing up

I felt as if there was something unfinished

Growing up

I got weird stares from people

and was treated as unequal

Grown up

I'm proud to be the daughter of two Mexican immigrants

I am not ashamed and I ignore other's ignorance

Grown up

I have shifted from being labeled and stereotyped

to being appreciated and acknowledged

Thankful for the transition I made

My pride in my Mexican culture identity will never fade
