curiosity
Home enveloped in air
Underneath the bubble Where the world grew and blossomed
A sea of green speckled with the yellow Of daffodils and dandelions
The bubbles we blew as a child We lived in
The vastness outside We would not partake in
Except for those few Who held the universe inside them
Who looked up at the dark night sky
And pondered stars and meteors
And the guardian up high
Who showed the way
And glowed like a firefly at dusk
Before the city lights drowned them out
They saw Andromeda and Venus
Jupiter and Mars
They saw great galaxies and the beauty of stars
So they sent up satellites and rockets
They sent up Laika and Albert
And Patricia and Mike
Then they landed on the moon
And took great leaps for mankind
They were the stars amidst the dark universe of people
They chose to shine
But they hid a secret in plain sight
As the people watched on
They told us the reason
Why they could shine
While others could not
They sent up curiosity
Who weighed 2,000 tons People thought they were crazy
People thought it couldn’t be done
But now there is water on mars
And the people Still watch on...
