The Curse of Poetry

If given a choice

Would I give it away?

The night’s disturbing voice  -

The repetitive, agonizing days.

When deliberations just keep spinning

Like demeans in my head.

No end and no beginning

Unlike words that I’ve read.

Thoughts and emotions – so much thinking it through

I wouldn’t curse on anyone – no enemies I’d choose.

To have to surrender to the rhymes I can’t outrun

To put life aside until the current end comes.

Yet my life is much richer

My thoughts clear and so true

Maybe this is my only way

Of communicating to you.

No other way to convey my thoughts

Even if no one is listening but me.

I’m not sure it’s a gift my talent has brought

The perceptions need to escape and to be set free.

I am applying for this scholarship because I need funding for my education. My mother will contribute as much as she can, my grandparents have all set aside money for my education, I have been working the last two summers and saving what I make and my brother has even offered me whatever remains of his college trust money because he started out with more. But, college is expensive and I plan on earning both an undergraduate and a graduate degree so I can accomplish everything I’ve dreamed about. I have taken many college classes at our local junior college in order to make this less expensive but I only have five classes completed with a lot ahead of me. I will make it happen!
