Curtains

(poems go here) I am behind the curtain, Dressed to perfection. I feel beautiful and whole. As the curtain opens I prepare to dance. I’m confused. My movements are not mine. I glance at my wrists. There are thin ropes tied around each. I try to turn around to see where they lead. That’s when I see them. The three beings that have controlled my destiny. I feel so small compared them. They have told me what I can and can’t do ever since I can remember. Why have a let them do it? Can I not stick up for myself? Or have I not been given the opportunity. There is the rat. The rat is sneaky in her ways. She supports the dream she wants, but never the one I have nurtured. She is selfish and unkind. She controls my destiny. There is the sheet of darkness. Everyone encounters this force. Determines whether or not you can fund what no one else can pay. So many rules and regulations. You wait to pay and are stuck paying for the rest of your life. Then there is the dog. His mood switches at the drop of the hat. He will support your dream financially but not emotionally. He hates what you are doing but is willing to keep you there when you do what he wants. He is confusing but provoking. I play their game. I move and dance with the fluidity they allow. I try my best to keep my emotions intact. I am crumbling. What do I do? I scream. I rip the rope off my wrists. No longer will I be controlled. I will keep my dream alive. I will do what I have to. I keep my head in the books. I apply for everything I can. I am working myself to death. It is still not enough. What else am I supposed to do? An angel picks me up and sets me on my feet again. She is helpful and kind. She will support me through these hardships and keep my dreams alive. She is my savior. I will succeed in my dreams with miracles and hard work.
