Cut Me Open For [Sur]Real
My body’s shell includes things
One would not expect, or believe.
My inside organs work against themselves
And take on jobs they’re not qualified for.
If you could cut my body open,
You would see
A healthy black heart,
Powered by machines of hope.
You would see lungs
Perfectly pink and strong
Struggling to only get a fraction
Of the oxygen they should.
A stomach the size of
An average young adult
But obese with the thoughts
Of eating too much nourishing food.
You would see a brain
That tells me every day
To stop what I’m doing
And put the thoughts of school and stress to rest.
A liver that craves
The taste of alcohol,
Even though it has
Never been satisfied with a drop.
You would see two strong kidneys
Attempting to filter and reprocess the blood
That once saved the life
Of a man walking down death row.
If a blind man could see inside me,
What would he see?
