The Cycle

What we had in the past has become an endeavor With a broken connection more apparent than ever The segments of freedom grow smaller and smaller While the dense wall between us grows taller and taller Through blame and dispute we lose sight of the past Tell ourselves it was stupid to think this would last Every time ends with ‘sorry’, or who deserves the fault So empty, the words that precede an assault We’ve become what we said we would never be This is more of each other than we wanted to see All the laughter discarded, special moments erased We can’t help but feel like it’s all been a waste So tell me why the ongoing battles exist Why let our foolish convictions persist? The only hope left is to pull ourselves out From this profligate cycle of censure and doubt

I have been writing for a few years, but have never had anything published. I am nearly fluent in Spanish and plan to study it further (along with Portuguese) in college. It will be exciting to be able to write poetry in multiple languages.
