D-Day
Like they always say its calm before the storm,
Dancing and singing, playing cards and getting drunk
Those are the days before the siege of Normandy.....
Most of us were only kids,
Just turned 18 and fresh out of school
We didnt know so many of us would die that day,
The memories are still present and haunting to relive
But its something we live through so that others can be free.....
I watched so many of my friends die in front of me,
But I couldn't stop to grieve, we had a mission to complete
So many didn't make it to the shore,
I'll admit I was scared, I didn't want to die but it was a job I had to do.....
Hours of fighting, days with scarce resources
We fought day and night to bring down the Germans
We won the fight and took back France,
But at what cost to our sanity and our dead friends......
Most of the boys were ready to fight that day,
All hopeful dreamers who had their families to go back home to
I was able to go home but at what cost,
I can never forget the haunting images of that day
They play through my mind like a movie reel,
Coming in sections, some good and some bad
I just wish this bloody war would of ended,
Before I lost my best friend and my brothers
I owe them everything and I plan on never forgetting their stories,
Their memories will live on with me and they will never be forgotten.......
Sincerely,
The Bloody Man of War
