The Dad I Never Had

Dear Dad,

People will say that you can´t be my dad.

That giving you the title is the worst idea I ever had.

¨ He is not blood. ¨ they say,

¨ What has he done for you anyway?¨

Although you may not be my father by blood,

You are my dad by a bond.

Any guy can be a father

But it takes a true man to be a dad altogether.

You have been patient and kind

No matter how much I cried or whinnied.

Over the years I have grown

You always treated me as your own.

Even though we have our ups and downs

Through every smile, laugh, tear, and frown

You stood by my side when my father was absent

You decided to be the dad that was present

As I wake up in the morning and count my blessings

I think about you when I stare at the ceiling

I thank the Lord for the blessings from above

For the amazing dad that I will forever love.

Love, Shy
