Dad Told Me

Dad told me, “I can’t protect you from a broken heart,”

I met a guy, and I thought that he was special from the start.

He made me feel important and told me he cared for me,

I trusted every word, believing how great we could be.

And it turned out it was all a lie,

So I realized it was time to say goodbye.

He told me that she was just a psycho, a crazy ex,

and that I should lay all my thoughts to rest.

But how could I believe all the things that he told?

Didn’t think I’d every meet a guy who was so cold.

Lying, cheating, heartless boy,

Did you have fun treating me like a toy?

Someday I hope you think of me, and miss me too,

But I know by then I’ll be over you.

Dad told me, “I can’t protect you from a broken heart,”

But channel this feeling into something good.

Make a song, or create a play,

I decided to sit down, and write my thoughts away.
