Daddy
I was lucky because I grew up in a two parent household
My father was “around,” that’s all that mattered
But if he’s never been fully present, does that even matter?
Learning he was an absent parent in all of my other siblings’ lives even though he showed up for me
I wondered, was I, or were they the ones lucky?
Flying off the walls in anger then showing affection with the click of a switch
Take a walk in my shoes, daddy ain’t raise no bitch
Shut up, you’re ugly
You’re gay, but I’m just fucking around. Give me a hug. Don’t you love me?
You’ll never get a job
You’ll never get a man
You can try and try as hard as you can but you’ll never be good enough
That matted nappy shit that grows from your scalp that you like to call hair
The decisions you make
The effort you make
The money you make, or should I say the pennies you pinch you broke ass wench
Even down to what you wear you will never be good enough in my eyes
Somehow you’ll see daddy in every man you choose
But you’ll never be good enough for me
And they’ll never be good enough for you
