For Daddy

When my world changed

I did not feel it

I did not ponder

I slept peacefully

And did not stir

I did not wonder

Or ever question

If when tomorrow came

You’d still be here

You left this world quickly

As if in a hurry

It was fitting for you

The man always early

I lived a day unaware

Of what for me was to come

And for you had come and gone

And when someone told me

No one I knew

I felt my heart sink

And all was silent

But for an echo

Of just a few words

He did not make it

She said of you

And that was when I knew

My world had changed

And I hadn’t even noticed
