Daddy, don't discriminate.

Once upon a time,

There was a mermaid,

The most beautiful red haired beauty, no doubt.

But she felt trapped in the sea and wanted out,

She collected treasures of all sorts,

But it wasn't enough to travel the ocean's courts,

She wanted more.

Although forbidden, she went above,

Above the water to fall in love.

His eyes, his hair, his smile,

She swooned for the longest while.

A storm hit,

He fell from his ship,

With all her strength, she brought him to shore,

With love she sang, she wanted more.

Desperate to be with him,

She chose to give up her fin,

Without her father, the Sea King's consent,

Off to the evil sea witch she went,

But she had to make the choice,

To have legs over a voice.

So to the shore she went,

With legs that she was only lent.

Without a kiss in three days,

She would have to return to live in the witch's ways.

She knew her father would carry worry for days,

But she could not live with his prejudice ways,

Humans and Mermaids were so a like,

How could he possibly think he was right?

For we think the same, we act the same,

So aren't we the same?

She spent her days with the handsome prince,

Using her charm and beauty to convince,

A romantic boat ride on the water,

The moment was right and closer he brought her,

Sadly the moment was a miss,

But enough to entice the evil sea witch.

The witch came to the shore,

In a beautiful disguise, she was ugly no more.

She sang the most beautiful tune,

But it was the mermaid's voice she used.

The prince was manipulated and confused.

Convinced the witch was his dream girl,

He was going to marry her and give her the world.

The young mermaid was loved by many,

Her friends had wrecked the wedding,

The witch was angry,

She rose above the sea,

It took a team,

From the land and the ocean,

To vanquish all the evil commotion.

Without the witch's spell,

The mermaid's legs were gone as well,

Her father was against the humans,

Until he saw his daughters heart laid in his hands,

Could he give up his own discrimination to find peace

Within himself and for the rest of the sea?

Compassion rose from within,

He wanted his daughter to win,

Her legs were beautiful,

As was his soul.

He made his daughters’ wedding,

But more importantly he opened his heart.

She was now free to dance and sing,

And he wouldn't keep mermaids and humans apart.
