Daddy of mine
When I was born, my daddy was there
He stood by my mom’s bed, holding her hand
And when the nurse brought over two babies instead of one
He couldn’t help but smile
When I was nine, I was a happy kid
I loved when my daddy would lift me up in the air
I would giggle and plead to be lifted higher, higher, higher….
And my daddy would do just as I asked
When I was ten, my daddy moved out of the house
The building felt empty without his stuff
It had been months since I saw my daddy’s face
It had been months since I felt my daddy kiss my forehead
It had been months since I begged my daddy to tuck me in at night
It had been months since I had a daddy
When I was eleven, I saw my mommy cry for the first time
I think she was sad daddy left us too
So I hugged her and told her we were all okay
She didn’t have to cry
When I was twelve, I was a big girl now
I didn’t have a dad, but that was okay
I had a mommy that loved us all so much
And I loved her so much too
Now I’m seventeen, and about to go to college
I strived for success to make my mom proud and happy
She encouraged me and I wouldn’t have gotten here without my hero
Who needs a dad when I have her?
