Daddy's Poem
When your five your afraid of the monster under the bed,
at ten you fear that if the boy doesn't love you, your dead.
At age fifteen a new fear punched me right in the chest,
as he said it, you knew the worst and hoped for the best.
How could it be that the worlds greatest dad gets diagnosed with a major disease,
you want the whole world to rewind and just freeze.
Sitting the back of the truck all a kid can do is cry,
I wondered, "what would I do if my dad dies?"
My life, my world, my hope, and my dreams would never survive,
the best of a little girl, wished and hoped for her number one to stay alive.
The ache and the pain, I can never understand,
how much one man could not have planned.
Through surgery and visits he held my hand,
he made me stronger, kept me at stand.
Through even more pain and chemo to go
not once has he given up, or sunkin' down low.
Daddy, you are here for me still to this day,
but I want you to know you'll be more than okay.
I hope and I wish that you will get better,
but I know in my heart that you will get better than ever.
