daffodils and dandelions

you planted flowers in my head and watered them with

fantasies of things that would never happen

when they began to blossom you decided you

weren't a fan of daffodils so you plucked them from my skull

but the roots were intertwined with my veins and

you left a hole where my heart was supposed to be

the vacant spot began to grow again

but this time it was filled with weeds and thorns

and no one ever says their favorite flowers are

dandelions
