Daisies

Daisies are a friendly flower,

Kathleen Kelly had it right

They bring a cheer to any room

They bring a certain light

I wish I had some daisies here

As I sit in the near-dark

Feeling almost all alone

Not making a mark

Wondering what life’s about

If I don’t make a dent

Wondering where these feelings will go

When I have ceased to vent

I wonder if the shadows

Are lonely as they dance

I wonder if the trees know

How scary is their looming stance

I wonder if the sun is sorry she must set

I wonder if the moon is in love with her light

I wonder if he chases her

All through the night

I would love to be chased

By someone so sweet

The man on the moon

Must be lovely to meet

For he is so diligent

In his pursuit of the sun

She could never feel lonely

Nor feel un-won

Still, she does indeed sit alone

Through the long day and night

While he has the stars and planets

To keep away the fright

I wonder if she feels as I

Stiff, unable to bend

Always wondering always wondering

When the night will end.

Maybe if I got some daisies

The darkness will all die

Or perhaps I merely need

To remember to open an eye.
