The Daisy

Iridescent beauty and magnificent wonder

A breadbasket for the benchwarmer,

Bridges we stubbornly crossed under

Gathering flowers in fields evermore.

Nights we spent staring into the expanse,

Dreaming of our days together.

We would share time in a rain dance,

You never minded the cold weather.

The daisies we gave away remind me of you,

Baseball fields now only fill with slight murmurs,

And I stare into the vast abyss above, alone.

I wish I remembered where that last daisy grew,

To grab that last one, I could have travelled further,

I now wait to see your eyes, bright as rhinestone.
