The Damage They Do

I wish everyone could see,

The damage that they do,

By speaking carelessly,

What it does to me, to you,

Slinging words around,

Rude comments sting,

Like Germ-X in a cut,

Not knowing when enough is enough,

Speaking up plunges you deeper,

If you’re a squealer you’re a keeper,

A fight is what they’re looking for,

Defending yourself opens a door,

Giving them access to hurt you more,

Stabbing then twisting,

Getting worse and worse if you’re resisting,

If they get you once,

They’ll get you again,

Try not to let them in,

Build up your walls,

Stand strong and tall,

If what they say hurts,

Wait to cry,

Don’t let them see your pain,

Hide, then late your tears fall like rain.
