Damaged Damsel
Damaged Damsel
Once upon a time
Snowflakes told our story.
Blue and wild grasses
Proclaimed our love’s glory.
Once upon a time
You opened doors, and I opened my heart.
King and queen,
I played my part.
Once upon a time
We expected no less.
You were my friend, my future,
My safety, my address.
Once upon a time
You watered the flowers in my soul.
Roses and lilies,
You made me whole.
Once upon a time
You lit the candle of hope in my bones.
The sweet aroma of cherry blossoms
Made me feel like I wasn’t alone.
My shining knight,
You shielded me from pain.
Oh, please tell me
It wasn’t all in vain.
Because it took
days and months and years
to finally say:
No,
You didn’t just have another bad day.
Our snowflakes, they melted
And dripped from my eyes.
You tore out my flowers
With anger and lies.
You blew out my candle
With every blow to the face.
In my chapped lips,
No despair was traced.
Changing the lock on my heart,
A king’s slave I’d be.
Wearing the rose colored glasses
That you gave to me.
And you mowed and mowed and mowed
Our sweet grass.
You shattered my brittle bones
And gave me scars with glass.
And who needs love
When you can be alone?
Who needs a future
When you are my home?
Once upon a time
Eyes and arms, black and blue.
Once upon a time
I thought I knew you.
