Dance With the Devil
It was a tuesday like any other
But when the night rolled in
Things got rough
I don't know exactly what happened
But i know exactly what you said
“Kat hurt her hand
Im taking her to the hospital
I won't be here when you get up
Get logan ready for school
Here's my new phone number.”
After that, you left
I didn't know it at the time
But those would be the last words you ever said to me
I woke up wednesday morning
Like any other morning
And got logan up
made sure he ate breakfast
that he brushed his teeth
And sent him on his way
While I was at school
I received a phone call
The man at the other end said he was sorry
I replied with “what for?”
A slew of curse words ensued to show his mistake
He asked if i knew what had happened to you
I said no
Not thinking what happened
Could happen
So i called the number you left
But i didn't save it
Because all it said when i called was
Disconnected
Later that day,
They told me what happened
That you locked yourself in the garage
And left
I was flooded with rage
Depression
Guilt
But then i realised
When i called your phone
And it said
“Disconnected”
It was talking about you
Because disconnected is what you were
From logan
From me
From everyone
Locked away in that room of yours with “her”
Only coming out for food, money, and god knows what else
But you won't know if god knows
Because you choose to leave with the devil instead.
The devil started you on it,
but you choose to continue it
And every time you did
God looked away
While the devil slid a sly smile
And offered to dance
So you danced with the devil
But this was a slow dance
That would last the rest of your life
He had you in his arms
Days, months and years passed
But you liked the way it fit you
You liked the way it made you feel numb
With the fire and smoke
It made you forget
But what were you trying to forget?
What were you running from?
I don't have answers to those questions
But what i do know is that you forgot about me
And you ran away from your family
So as the fire cooled and the smoke cleared
you saw your reflection
And your reflection was a shell of a man that never was
You realised what needed to be done
So as the music slowed
And the song ended
You tried to leave
But he had his grip on you
And his grip was ever tightening
On your body
On your soul
And on your mind
As He dragged you to hell
you tried to jump towards the heavens
But as you got there
God shut you out
Giving up on you long ago
As you fell back towards earth
A rope stopped your mortal body
But your soul continued to hell
Where the devil slid a sly smile
Offered his hand
And said “Let us dance”
