Dance with a Rescuer

I used to be afraid of the dark,

Before you forced your way in.

I used to swear my life by the stars.

Why should I let the light in?

I used to cry alone in the attic.

The spiders they ran.

I used to say I only had one fate,

To turn to ash again.

The undiscovered light switch,

Felt pressure from your presence.

My limp weight was ascended

By no power of my own.

That was only who,

I thought I had to be.

That was only me,

Before you rescued me.

Now I see that,

I’ve been set free,

No more fear,

I live tear free.

Now as our final time nears,

One last dance we stumble through,

I ask you why you brought me here,

You whisper “because I love you”.
