Dandelion

Dear Mother,

A weed? Why a weed?

Wish on a weed, spread the seed to make more weeds.

Why should we tell children to wish on weeds,

If weeds are bad?

Spread the seeds of a weed and all your dreams

Come true.

It’s not a weed. It’s a hope.

A way to cope

With a life that resembles a tightrope.

Fall to one side, fall to the other.

Either way you’re wrong.

Why tell kids they’re wrong

For wishing?

For hoping?

Dear Dandelion,

You are not a weed.

You are a coin of silver

In a river

Of adult misdeeds and greed.

Never change.

Sincerely,

Me
