"Dare to Dream"

Do remember that night?

When we kissed under the stars,

Trapped beneath your love, you held me.

I could’ve lived forever having

Dissolved in our embrace.

I dream of that girl who could still steal your embrace

She gave: her mind, her body, her

Soul, to you.

She had to leave herself behind, all because she dared to dream.

Just a girl who used to have her head in the clouds

She longs for the journey

But hates her discovery

She says she loves life but they all know it's a lie

She tiptoes around the joy in her life

And danced between the lines of her fingertips

She dares to dream about freedom from this unrequited duet

And her path was never clearly seen by her or anyone else

But when she closed her eyes, she got lost from the road that never existed

She sparks with this desperation to be what he needs,

Salvaging any of her motivation

To coexist in a world more simpler than herself

She strives for the surface, never asking for help

But she manages to break her own lonely heart

Simply, because she ever dared to dream

Her eyes gleam with hope at the light of every new day

She tries to become something else or anything else in spite of him

But the only one she's fooling is herself

She can't forget about the girl she used to be

But she doesn’t know why she wants to

Never moved from her faceted heart

Knowing that she can never be amongst the stars

The same stars that once watched us twirl endlessly

Wistfully, tears glisten in her constellatory eyes

She makes a wish, again

But this time she won’t dare to dream

So she tries to let go

And all of a sudden she wakes in the moment that she fell in

Caught in her daydreams yet again

She stares off, blank with every darting eye

She'll let herself slip into her fantasy maybe once more

Longing for someone to long for her

She cries out for skyscrapers and brisk memories

She tells herself what she's not

Leaving nothing for herself to be

She yearns at the world beneath her feet

Her transposed heart still lingers around street lights and uneasy heartbeats

Until she can’t stand the sound of her own voice

She burns for that feeling; Any feeling

She struggles to keep her soul within her reach

She waits, catatonic, for the moon's gift to her each night

A myriad of glistening dreams she wished she could bottle

She chokes the life out of her sentiments when he was around.

She buries them beneath the fear she runs from

Pushing through each day; seeming as if they were only child's play

But walking away from any day

Would be the hardest thing she would ever do

On the edge she stands waiting out for a call

Any sound to sway her in either direction

Maybe for the first time

Or maybe for the last

She decides to let go.

Too embarrassed to commit, but not strong enough to tell the truth

She tries to win a game that was rigged from the start.

She spends her days exhaling her thoughts and inhaling her worries

She strives for the unattainable: his love.

All I knew was that the world was wonderful when I was with you.

Perhaps you loved having something to call yours

Or maybe your kisses were laced with abhorrence from the

Start.

Staring back up at the stars, I know who I am without him now, but somewhere

She will wonder if she’s too much.

But she will never be enough in his eyes?
