The Dark

He paces while the patient shadows wait. Tirelessly striding the length of the lines, So unmovingly familiar and old. The clever cage holds him close. In terror and confusion he thoughtfully begins feeding on the unfeeling, cold and unforgiving. Swallowing the steely ice with relish reserved for delicately sweet fruit, he becomes a fiend of that night, a king of the cage. Never realizing, He’s building the maze of stiff steel bars wrought by insecurities and yesterday’s grey. That’s how he began to run, the cold heavy in his stomach now, slowing him down.
