The Dark
Slowly trudging,
Heaving deeply.
Heavy bricks,
Feet are sinking.
Head sulks low,
Tears may flow.
Step by step,
Hour by hour,
The tussles of life
Refuse to cower.
Odds are stacked,
Vitality is lacked.
The clouds grow dark,
The pain is sharp.
The wheel keeps turning,
Anxiety churning,
World’s still burning.
And yet still there’s yearning,
for something more
than petty chores and
lists and deadlines,
an endless score.
Are things as hopeless as they seem?
Or is this life just a clouded dream?
I think not,
If truth be spoken.
There is a light leading
to our heavenly token.
What once was shattered
and badly broken,
Can be repaired
with His great works,
And with the words that He has spoken,
“So do not fear,
for I am with you;
do not be dismayed...
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you
with my righteous hand” (Isaiah 41:10)
Remember this,
With peaceful heart,
And know that never will you be,
Wholly or hopelessly in the dark.
