Dark Chocolate

Black, Dark as Night my inner beauty shined so bright.

At least so I thought because being white and light seems to do the world so right.

Be beautiful I may, Be ugly I might made a slave to my skin for being dark as the night.

Trying to fit in but the line that divided me from them was from within.

Woke up countless nights trying to bleach my skin, trying different hairstyles to make me fit in.

Nubian Princess my mother always said, I thought it was a curse to be darker skinned.

Why couldn't people love me, the way I did.

White skin was made god,  and light skin was mad special, yet dark skin was made ugly.

Love me for me , and the change came from within.

I'm a dark-skin beauty, princess if you must.

All smiles my way, cause chocolate causes lust.

This poem barely rhymed but it was an inside into my life, the trouble I had to go through to fit in growing up in a predominately white area.
