In the dark of night

In the dark of night and day,
Forgotten, ghosts cry their mournful song,
The ashes in their billowing plumes sway
In the dark of night and day.

The road continuing on for miles;
Countries, cities, and homes forgotten,
Wandering souls bear their wretched guiles on
The road continuing on for miles.

The pain and anguish people bear
Crushes them on their weary journey.
Man, woman, and hopeful child share
The pain and anguish people bear.

A flickering flame struggles to live on
In the tainted hearts of soiled man.
The true ones protect the pure thought of hope
As the flickering flame survives.
