The Dark Passenger

As the smooth sharp liquid pours down my throat

It strikes my heart as if to bring me to life

I quickly drink more, wanting to keep that feeling

Soon the warmth embraces me

I am calm, relaxed, nothing can harm me

I feel comforted by this dark brown liquid

It is my best friend, my companion, my rock

It hides my emotions and brings out my other side

The warm kindhearted person who’s been hiding all this time

Everybody loves me, I am on top of the world

But then I feel my heart slow it’s beating

I know what is coming next

The feeling of empowerment is soon to disappear

I will be sad, anxious, afraid of moving on

I quickly take the bottle and swig some more down

Hoping to feel the lightening strike to my heart

Hoping to stop what is going to happen next

But it is not the same

I know I cannot return to that feeling of euphoria

But I still drink more, praying something great will happen

But all that comes is a feeling of despair and disappointment

As the smooth sharp liquid pours down my throat
