The dark place

Black eyes swim up in front of mine. Her face, pale and pasty. Eyes sunken and dark, swimming with tears. With nothing left inside. Those haunted eyes. She seeks to speak, although her mouth is sewn shut. There's no need to speak. The eyes say it all. If only they had looked. Fear, fear, fear. All the consuming fear. What do we fear? The unknown? Pain? Death? I know she feared living. Surprise surprise. It's not till now, like you, I am forced to realize. That creature lurking in the shadows. The one made of bloody, broken bits of flesh. She, or now better yet It, is my reflection. A bitter laugh bubbles up. Reduced to a blubbering fool, I am grateful. Finally, The walls begin to fade. The cold presses closer. Silence greets me. Darkness claims me.
