For the Dark-skinned Girl / Abu Karim

I write on a black slate all day long;

I write many illegible things.

I open a pin from a closed letter.

I am reading a story.

Breaking a swelling of soil, I observe it

if there is any fairy tale hidden there.

Through the broken glasses of my spectacles,

I try to find if there is any message

for me in the letter. I watch your dark-skinned

figure dancing in front of my sight.
