Darkness

Darkness was all that was there
Black, the color of a rising movement
Hate, the feeling that overflowed the nation
White, actions patterned with violence
Hope, fuel for peaceful end to hate

Dreams were fire that grew
Resistance, spark that ignited the fire and rage
Separate, ideal and demeaning for all involved
Burning, fear imbedded deep into the souls of men
Together, all were strong for a greatness to be had

Light shown through
Praise, given in cry’s with repetition
Reluctance, destroyed a way of life to push on a new
Order, power behind forceful rights to be given
Shots, leaders were killed while dreams lingered
And yet darkness was still there
