Darkness and the Light
Am I afraid of Darkness or is it the Light?
Darkness is the home of what creeps in the shadows
Darkness is the home to the secret that forever changed my life
Darkness is the home to the hand that crept to the place it never belonged
Darkness is the home to the trauma that constantly has me choking back tears
Darkness is the home to the title “victim” that will forever define my life
Darkness is the resting place to the person I used to be
But am I Afraid of the Darkness or is it the Light?
Light is the home to the clarity of what happened to me
Light is the home to having to accept what happened to me
Light is the home of me realizing the strength and that I am no longer that little girl who had to keep that secret
Light is the home where I see the anger and the rage that was created inside of me
Light is the home where I did turn that anger and rage into my voice
Light is the home to the title “victim” that I will no longer let define my life
Light is the home to a survivor.
So I ask myself am I really afraid of the Darkness or is it the Light?
