Darkness Protects

Your darkness shields me

The light cannot touch where you rest

With you, I see all that was and will be

You allow some to pass the test

            You have endured so much

            From sand, snow, to rain

            You help all you touch

            You never had to train

            You are used

And then you are used again

You hide us when we’re bruised

Or when our tears have left a stain

            Even when it burns

            You never left us alone

With night and day we take turns

And never once have I heard you groan

            When upscale and costly

            You swiftly leave

            When purchased reasonably

To me you seem to cleave

            You are my companion

            Without you I am blinded

            By this light filled canyon

Darkness protects, have you me reminded.
