Darling, I do

I tell you all my secrets

Without expecting yours in return

Every night when I can’t sleep

Your peaceful face helps me relax

Although I need constant control

You take the reins and I lean back

I let go

I put my trust in you

I follow the flow

Of your breath

The way you sway

The way you promise you’ll always stay

Here with me

In my arms

We’re locking hands

You hum along

To the beat of some song

I’ve never heard and neither have you

But I’ll hum along

Because I love you.

Over the years I have built a million walls

And a million hands have helped me

In just two years you’ve taken down so many

You are the galaxy

The nebula I’ve never seen

The waterfall that never ends

You don’t give a damn about my dam

And I fear you at times

You’re so close to my soul

You know so much of my mind

When I’m scared of running out of time

You lift my head

Give me patience

Give me guidance

Give me time

Because you love me.

Tell me when you’re home and safe

Tell me all about the food on your plate

Is it filling?

Is it enough?

The bed you sleep on

Is it too tough?

Do you need a new mattress,

New pillows,

New socks?

Tell me when you’re unsure

When you want to run away

When you feel like you can’t breathe

When dying sounds like the only cure

Tell me when you need a stone

To keep you steady.

Darling you will never be alone

Because I love you.

If tonight is just too scary

If tomorrow is too uncertain

If next week will be much better

But only bad things will come after,

Let me be your home,

As you are mine

Let me share in your pain,

The way you stand with me under mine

Because I know you love me.

In the way you hold my chin

In your fingers on my skin,

In all of your reassurances

In our impromptu dances.

Please know that I love you too,

Because darling I do.
