Dash between two dates

Once again the sound of rain thunders across the pavement

The earth falls away from the tiny letters on the cold stone

You can read the name

Imagine the flesh melting into brittle bones

Two dates, Birth and death

And then the infamous dash that lays between

If you knew me

you'd know what that dash means

What have you done with your life?

Did you make sure to love all others

not just the ones the benefited you?

Did you consider anyone else's feelings besides your own?

When you left this world so full of pain and hate

Did you take the time to appreciate

all that I have done for you?

there was nothing else I could do

you left the largest scar over my heart

one wrong moved could tear the stitches apart

I'm running out of thread to make these repairs

I've made a lot of mistakes in my life

but we have no rewrites, no do-overs

Learn from them, then move them over

Dig yourself out of the grave you put yourself in

Nothing is worth forcing yourself into that dead, black bin.
