Daughter

Our differences make me,me

I hope our similarities make me like you.

We are connected in ways too deep to understand,

even though others may try too.

Our images reflect similarities,

though our truths lay in what others can't see.

The complexity of our relationship is that even though we look alike,

you are you and I am me.

You've passed along the best pieces of yourself

without even being asked.

Unselfishly giving me the freedom to become my own woman,

while silently encouraging me to live up to the task.
