A Daughter Like Me

You think when you criticize that i don't see How true your words are But I wonder if you see How your lack of belief in me Has left a scar And would it kill you to see Even though I've disappointed you Or in the past how much I've failed I want you to know that despite what you think I never aimed to be that one crooked nail The one in the family to always let you down I never intended to accomplish so many mistakes And I'm not being fake when I talk about what I want in the future ahead You think I'm too soft when you see me crying Or naive for considering a better life You think I don't realize in order to succeed its a fight You think I don't notice how you look at me We both know you don't believe I have what it takes That one I could become someone great But even though I have many issues on my plate many I've never even shown you Unlike you I always believed When it comes to trying its never too late But I keep waiting for you to get a clue To notice how those big smiles I had have become few Yet, that's nothing new All this time I wanted to change not just for me but for you But even without your support you see I've decided to give my dreams a chance to grow As I struggle and ache The tears I shed will never be known Especially to you Because you've made up your mind about me Yet somehow I'm stupid enough to still believe That one day you'll be proud You had a daughter like ME
