The Daughter You Forgot

Hello to my father

It’s the daughter that you forgot

I don’t think

You’ll remember me

I’m probably not in your thoughts

I told you I found love

Do you remember that day?

I doubt that you would

You tuned out after ‘gay’

Hello to my father

It’s the daughter that’s graduating

I worked night and day

Realizing there is no use in hating

a ghost of a man who never thought twice

Of what his disappearance would do

To the child in his life

Hello to my father

Mom told me she was proud today

Of the little girl that she raised

Finally finding her own way

I wondered for so long if you’d feel that way too

But I’m not that little girl anymore

I certainly grew

So I suppose I should thank you

For not keeping me in your thoughts

I’ve succeeded regardless

Sincerely

the daughter you forgot
