Daughter's Lament

My tears do not say I’m feeble they say I’m strong.

I always tried so hard to make you proud; I tried with all my might.

I can only hang onto nothing for so long.

A lullaby that used to put me to sleep, now brings back painful memories, a dreadful song

Sadness, and grief gnaw at me; I want to be free and escape, like a bird taking flight

My tears do not say I’m feeble they say I’m strong

Everything you say is true but I wish you were wrong

You never forget someone you loved and who meant so much, I was raised right.

I can only hang on to nothing for so long.

Most days I yearn for your sweet embrace Mommy, the only place I will truly belong

I have climbed life’s mountain to an impeccable height

My tears do not say I’m feeble they say I’m strong

It turns out I am stronger than I thought all along

I can't live without you, yet my eyes open each morning, I'd rather they ignite.

I can only hang on to nothing for so long

My heart is blind to the daylight.

I have changed for the time you left, you would be awed at the sight.

My tears do not say I’m feeble they say I’m strong

I can only hang on to nothing for so long.
