David

You should have a girl against your lips,

Not a gun.

You should have a smile stretching across your face,

Not a scar along your wrist.

You should be ruling high school,

Not high from drugs.

What should I say?

I cannot make it better.

I can't tell you about my God,

And explain all the apostle's letters.

I can hardly sit here and nod,

As I try to hold it together.

I can't loose you.

It would be too much pain.

And I know there is no love left in this world for us to gain.

But if I could see another make you smile,

It would be all right.

It would be alright if someone else held you tight,

If it kept you alive tonight.

If it kept you alive tonight,

I would do anything.

I would steal the world and lay it at your feet,

I would walk through the shadows of the darkest street.

Just don't go.

Give me your heavy load

And you, you can go set out anew, light and free

Just like you were meant to be

Happy and loved and bright.
