A Day in the Competition

Inhale. Exhale. In. Out.

Heart-Beat. Ba-bum. Ba-bum.

I am drowning, I am flying.

I'm living. I'm dying.

The music drives the floor, the rhythm, the feat

of the feet: the Heats, every 5-6-7-8

One minute and thirty seconds

too long and too short

Start, move, mess up, move more,

keep moving, cha-cha-one,

mistake, hip shake, arms, arms,

and finish.

The sweat collects, my back is wet.

Makeup runs down my face to my neck.

Fringe and stones may break my bones

but heels will never hurt me.

Sitting, breathing, resting.

"In jive, don't forget-"

"I won't forget", but I do forget

Kick, Kick, Side, Point-

Not point, it's turn!

Holy crap, it's turn!

Heat 412, Jive

Fix: Kick, Kick, Side, Turn

Out of breathe: breathe, breathe, breathe

Finish, finished. Breathing...

Heart-Beat. Ba-bum. Ba-bum.

In. Out. Inhale. Exhale.
